With its range of residential buildings and innovative heat-recovery system, Humano District in Sherbrooke is a game-changing sustainable housing project. Humano District’s design is based on strong environmental values we were proud to apply in developing this housing project. By revitalizing the Maison Générale of the Petites Soeurs of the Sainte-Famille, Humano District has found a place in the present for the heritage of the past.
This special Sherbrooke monument now features cozy, thoughtfully designed apartments in a setting that evokes historic charm. Much of the Maison Générale has been preserved to maintain tangible signs of its past and its cultural riches. The view from the promontory on which it stands is always a spectacular—mountain, city, river—no matter which direction your apartment faces.
The new building on the site, Le Galt, offers spacious condo-style apartments with abundant windows. Le Galt has indoor parking to reduce heat-island effects and beautify the view through ample green space. Le Galt and the Maison Générale are connected by an underground tunnel, so residents can take advantage of all project services and common areas without changing out of their slippers.
The establishment of Exaion’s Quantum Hybrid Computing Centre in the Maison Générale has made Humano District a model in energy efficiency. Computing centre processors generate a tremendous amount of heat. Which can be recovered and used to heat every building and apartment in Humano District.
It all came about through a joint initiative of Université de Sherbrooke, Quebec’s Ministère de l’Économie, de l’Innovation et de l’Énergie, and Exaion, a subsidiary of EDF Group. The initiative has been a huge success, both technologically and ecologically.
Humano District offers apartments that suit a variety of lifestyles. Whether you prefer the charm of historic buildings or the appeal of new construction, Humano District has it all. Besides being incredibly comfortable, our condos for rent include access to a gym, indoor swimming pool, and other welcoming and convenient shared facilities.
